Our Choirs

Intermezzo Choir

The Intermezzo Choir is open to all children in grades 4th - 10th who love to sing. Intermezzo singers perform at the beginner/intermediate level of the Jacksonville Children's Chorus. Singers will receive 60 hours of instruction focusing on healthy vocal production and the development of music reading skills through unison, two-part, and even three-part literature. Aural skills are strengthened through the use of ear training, solfege and sight-reading exercises.

The choir works with music chosen for singers of this age which may contain challenges like a foreign language – it’s also fun! Singers perform several times during the year, including major seasonal concerts and other community performances.

Auditions are held by appointment from May through August for the following school year. There is no fee to audition. Full and partial scholarships are available based on financial need.

“Through music and your leadership, these children learn to perform in different languages while experiencing the diversity of an array of world cultures. The understanding they gain will serve them well as they enter adulthood.”

R. Randall Onstead, former President/CEO of Winn-Dixie

“It is gratifying the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus program covers so much of what is not available to children in the Duval Public Schools. The children who have an opportunity to participate in your Chorus are very fortunate to have this outstanding musical training available to them. The entire community benefits from your talent and that of the children.”

Dr. Frances B. Kinne , Former Chancellor Emeritus and Past President, Jacksonville University

“Music plays a major role in the full development of a child. Not only does it enrich lives, it also serves as a pathway for students to express themselves and explore new ways to communicate with others. For 20 years, kudos to the JCC for molding the lives of young artists, and I look forward to the next 20 years.”

Tim Cost, President, Jacksonville University

“JCC truly embodies some of the best qualities of team sports: camaraderie, discipline, patience, persistence, and positive mentoring.”

Wali Gomes, JCC Parent

“I was in the Jacksonville Children's Chorus in 1999-2002. It helped me to build long lasting friendships and a greater love for music. To this day I still remember the fun times and great concerts we did in the JCC. I think this organization is great for children of all ages, it helps build confidence and friendships.”
