Audition FAQ

My singer has little to no experience. Will they need to know how to read music before signing up?

No. Prior musical experience is not required to audition but can be very beneficial.

What's the audition like?

Your singer will sing a simple song such as "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and our directors will go over music exercises to test their knowledge.

What is the time commitment?

The Jacksonville Children's Chorus is a world-class organization that sets a high standard for our singers. We follow policies similar to most after-school extracurricular activities. Our choirs' calendar is scheduled a year in advance and this will include all rehearsals and performances. Depending on the choir they are placed in, rehearsals will be once or twice a week, no longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes, and we offer multiple location options (i.e., Mandarin and our Downtown Headquarters). Rehearsals are mandatory!

Is there a tuition cost?

Yes. Tuition will vary per choir depending on where your singer is placed at auditions. We start at $200+ for semester-based programs and $900+ for yearly programs. Financial assistance is available - see below.

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes. Our scholarship application process is simple, and gives families the opportunity to share their unique situation - we understand that a family’s financial situation “on paper” rarely tells the whole story. Therefore, we try to provide a space for families to elaborate on their individual situation, and encourage you to share anything that may affect your financials; this may include medical bills, school/college tuition payments, caring for elderly relatives, multiple children in JCC programs, etc.

All families are eligible for a full or partial scholarship that will help cover tuition, uniforms, and the cost of performances and trips!

We understand each concern and would like to assure you that the JCC is willing to help in the best way possible for your children that love to sing. If you have any further questions regarding tuition or financial assistance, please reach out to our Finance Office at 904-353-1636 ext. 2, or email our Finance Office at Joyanne@jaxchildrenschorus.org.

Are there programs available for singers younger than 2nd grade?

Yes. We highly recommend checking out our Primary Choir (K-2nd Grade) and our available preschool classes. Visit our classes page to learn more.
